The beautiful girl pictured is Merryn Crofts. Merryn sadly passed away from severe ME in 2017 just days after her 21st birthday. I was lucky enough to be her friend and thanks to her family’s blessing Merryn’s Smile Day was created in 2019. Smile For ME want to remember Merryn by sending a Smile in her name to those suffering with severe ME.
This is our second year celebrating Merryn’s Smile Day on the 13 May, her birthday. Merryn loved sending little gifts and also loved it when happy post arrived for her so we are glad to be able to do this in her memory. We hope it makes the Smile recipients smile as much as Merryn made others smile.
You can nominate a severe ME sufferer for a Smile by completing the nomination form. Nominations close on the 13th April. We will consider as many nominations as possible but unfortunately we are not able to send a Smile to everyone nominated. We will advise whether your nomination has been successful or not. The successful nominees will receive their Smile on the 13th May 2020. Please note we are sorry but unfortunately we are only able to send one Smile per person so anyone who has previously received a Smile will not be eligible for another. This enables us to send a Smile to as many people affected by ME as possible.
Due to COVID-19 we have currently suspended sending Smiles. Click here for more information. Thank you for your support. We look forward to getting back to regular scheduling as soon as possible.
ME affects around 250,000 people in the UK, of whom around 25% are severely affected being house bound or bed bound (Information from ME Association)
Merryn suffered from very severe ME which sadly took her life but it never took her heart and her smile lives on.
Sending lots of love to her family.
